Let Your Dogs Run Free at "Pooches Unleashed" Party

Celebrate with the Frenchtown Dog Park Association (FDPA) at the fifth annual “Pooches Unleashed” party on pet parade day, Sunday, February 3rd.  Beginning at 11:30 a.m., visit our spacious dog park at 10th & Emmett to show your support for the park and to get your pet parade party started!  It is the perfect place to meet up with your pet parade watching or walking crew before or after the parade.

With over ¾ of an acre, the Frenchtown Dog Park is one of the largest enclosed urban green spaces in the City of Saint Louis, offering a safe and secure environment within which residents can exercise their dogs and socialize with neighbors.  Donations from the event benefit park improvements and maintenance.   Current fundraising projects include the fencing of our newest parcel of land and an agility course.

Pop in to relax with friends, warm up in our heated tent, enjoy refreshments and music, all while your well-mannered dog plays off leash.  (The small dog side of the park requires a leash.)  No dog?  No worries!  Everyone is welcome to join in the fun.  Your $10 donation provides you with entrance, dog treat, beverage tickets and a door prize ticket.  Our event features clean private port-a-potties, drinks, door prizes, an amazing prize raffle and a silent auction.  The prize raffle boasts something for everyone, including a deluxe pet lover’s basket, a Mardi Gras cooler of booze and a Soulard wining and dining basket.  The talented David Carlyon, owner of Darkwood Studio, will be at the event offering professional pet photography for a park donation.

The 4:00 p.m. crowning of the 2013 Frenchtown Dog Park King, Queen and Jester adds an exciting, competitive and fun entertainment component to the event.  Do you have a regal pooch ready to rock the park as our next figurehead?  Join the race now by visiting “King and Queen Contest” on the navigation bar to nominate your dog for the royal contest.  “Votes” for the dogs come in the form of donations collected from pet owners’ friends and family.  The excitement builds online and continues at the party as owners work to top their competitors, becoming a moment by moment race to the end.  The owners’ pets with the most “votes” in each category become the reigning royalty.

Last year, the contest alone raised over $1,800 for the park.  Special thanks to the 2012 Royal Court, featuring King Grappa, companions of Damien Garrels and Lana Spear, Queen Harley, companion of Bill Burns, Jester Romeo, companion of Brett Benyo and all the other entrants.  The winners’ photos are posted on the website and at the park.  The reigning King, Queen and Jester lead our group in the next parade before handing over their crowns.

How can you participate?

·         Would you like to volunteer to work a shift at the event?

·         Would you like to be on our committee?

·         Do you enjoy working at park clean-up and mulch days?

·         Do you have an item you would like to contribute to our silent auction or prize baskets?  Examples include desirable new gift items that you’ve been given but you don’t need, product or service from your business, promotional product giveaway items for door prizes, printing services, banner making, Mardi Gras décor, etc…

·         Are you interested in sponsorship opportunities?  We are developing a sponsorship program.  Your business can contact us if interested in donating cash or services in exchange for promotion or placement.

·         Do you have a dog business, club or organization that would like to “mark your territory” at the dog park?  If your group would like to make our dog park event your special meeting place for your parade watchers or walkers before or after the parade, you can encourage your members, clients and friends to attend our party.  For a small additional donation, we will “mark your territory” by placing a sign reading “Friends of (your logo) Meeting Area” in a specific place within our park to help your members find each other.

·         Do you have items that you can donate or lend to the park to help make the event a success?  Examples include; fire pits, fire wood, donated water, beer or alcohol, food trays or baked goods for volunteers, disposable products, etc…

·         You can help even if you can’t attend.  Provide a sponsorship, donate or support one of our King and Queen candidates by “voting” online for a nominee.

·         Would you like to become a patron?  This is the perfect time to join.  Join online at www.frenchtowndogpark.com/join or pick up an application and paperwork at the park in the brochure box at the entrance.

Your support keeps our park open.  All forms of contributions are appreciated and needed.  For more information, to volunteer or to sponsor, email Vicki Morris at events@frenchtowndogpark.com or call 314-477-4047.

Thank you and see you at Pooches Unleashed!
